Angelicum College (AC) Disaster Management Council, led by Rev. Fr. Dennis Maquiraya, O.P., organized this year’s earthquake and fire drill on August 24.

Aimed to educate the students with the proper procedures during natural disasters, the annual activity took a step further than of the previous years by including short lectures prior to the actual demonstrations.

The council, composed of selected instructors and staff of the college, invited the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to instruct the participants of the dos and don’ts during emergency situations.

Firefighters SFO1 Ricky Flores, FO1 John Olegario, FO2 Angerone Capili, FO2 Kristine Rillo and FO2 Gary Parchamento directed the entire process, and even used actual equipment to make the drill as realistic as possible.

Apart from the on-going classes, the different offices across the learning institution also partook in the standard “drop, cover and hold” position, upon hearing the signal of the long bell; as administrators, staff, facilitators and students slowly assembled, and filled the St. Vincent Ferrer Gymnasium.

AC is planning to hold more disaster and calamity drills in the future.
