Regular Program

The learners who are under this program come to Angelicum College every day from Monday to Friday and follow a regular class schedule with different subject facilitators. Modular instruction coupled with socialized recitations or individual/group instructions are made available. All activities are coordinated with the school personnel concerned. Opportunities are scheduled for the learners to update their skills when they lag behind.

The physical arrangement in the classroom is made such that those who are capable of doing independent activities are made free to move and get the materials they need. An area is also made available for those who need further explanations from the learning facilitators.

A Profile on the Types of Learners

Each learner is unique and has his own way of approaching his/her lessons. Therefore, the system must cater to each one’s creative form of learning. To facilitate this, one must note the category each learner may fall into:

1. A dependent learner is a learner who depends greatly on the learning facilitator in his/her learning activities and needs. He/She may be comfortable with traditional classroom teaching. These are learners from Nursery to YS 1.
2. A semi-dependent learner is a learner who needs supervision by the learning facilitator but can work independently. Basically, he/she is a dependent learner struggling to be independent. He/She is in a period of transition from a dependent learner to an independent learner. He may perform well with the traditional classroom teaching but may also be given library research, self-study, experiments, etc. These are learners from YS 2-4.
3. An independent learner is a learner who needs very minimal supervision or none at all from the learning facilitators in his learning activities – may work with ease and comfort with library research, self-study, experiments, etc. These are learners from YS 5-11.

The Learning Program

The Angelicum Learning Program is concerned mainly with learning as a process, designed to facilitate learning. This is composed of three independent programs, namely, the Mastery Learning Program (MLP), Learning Management Program (LMP) and the Angelicum System Evaluation Program (ASEP). The MLP is the program primarily concerned with the process of learning; LMP is the handmaid of the MLP while ASEP is the tool to assess the learning process.

Since Angelicum uses the nongraded system, modules which are designed to encourage independent learning are mainly used. The modular approach caters to different groups within the course. One can go as fast as he/she wants to in learning the prescribed skills. The modular instruction enables the learner to go from where he/she is to where he/she would like to be in attaining educational objectives.

The module may refer the learner to other resources in the library or laboratory. Activities are not necessarily limited to the study of the written materials alone. Video and audio media resources are often used to augment, clarify, or enhance printed information. A series of self-instructional modules can be used as part of a course to cover topical areas. Study time for individual modules may vary from less than an hour to a day or more of work.

The learning facilitator, however, is free to offer other learning activities to meet the particular needs of the learner who finds difficulties in using the modules.
