THE GaBayAnihan PROGRAM

The word GaBayAnihan is a compound of five Filipino words such as, Gabay, Bayani, Anihan, Bayanihan, and Bayan. The program aims to guide (Gabay) the people to move as one community or nation (Bayan), forming them according to the values and character of enlightened citizens or heroes (Bayani) who have the capacity to harvest (Anihan) their own products and talents. It also highlights the good Filipino value of Bayanihan which implies cooperation and selfless service.

PROGRAM GOALS:

1. Gabay- “to guide”

This pertains to the task of the academic institution, by utilizing its resources, to assist, steer, and lead the partner community in maximizing its inherent capability and potentials towards sustainable development.

2. Bayani- “hero”

It is the realization of every community member that he/she has talents, gifts, values, ideals and innate capacity to succeed. As a “hero”, he/she can contribute to the development of the community.

3. Anihan- “fruit/harvest”

Every well-planned program or project has its fruits that are beneficial to the progress of the community. For the whole community, it refers to communal undertakings and for individuals; it refers to their personal achievements.

4. Bayanihan- “cooperation and volunteerism”

Bayanihan is a good Filipino tradition that exhibits the spirit of working together to achieve something that one cannot do alone. The usual example is that, when somebody needs to move a house, the whole village gets together and carries it. This practice develops volunteerism, cooperation, and solidarity among community members which is necessary in community development.

5. Bayan- “community/society”

This is the goal of ACES GaBayAnihan Program wherein the people imbibe the sense of owning and concern for the community and collaborate towards the full realization of its vision and mission.
